Bolivian climate
Bolivia is a tropical country. Seasonal differentiation is therefore carried out according to rainfall variations, between a dry season (winter) to a wet period (summer). The territory is occupied on the east by the Amazon Basin and on the west by the Altiplano and the high mountain ranges of the Andes.
The climate varies considerably from one region to another. To the east, the summers are hot and winters generally mild. To the west, on the Altiplano, the climate is windy and cold all year because of the altitude. For example, the average annual temperature in La Paz, about 3,700 meters above sea level is 8 ° C. During the austral winter (May to October), the average minimum temperature is -2 ° C, while the maximum temperature does not exceed 12 ° C. In summer (November to April), the average temperatures are 3 and 15 ° C respectively.
Sometimes at certain hours of the day, the sun provides much higher temperatures, so that the technique of “onion” is appropriate: we spend our time to dress and undress depending on the time of the day and sunshine! Always bring with you warm clothes and protection against the sun(hat, sunglasses and sunscreen), in fact, ultraviolet radiation is more aggressive here, due to the altitude.
