1 week, 7 stages, 220 kilometres

The frightening figures for this year’s Ultra Bolivia Race. Yet every year, athletes come from all over the world to take part in this exceptional competition. This year, the participants will have crossed the two salars, that of Coipasa and that of Uyuni, and the arid lands of south-western Bolivia, all at an altitude where even the slightest effort becomes difficult.

Almost complete autonomy

To add a little more difficulty to this event, the candidates are almost completely self-sufficient, meaning that they have to carry their own food and belongings throughout the race, with only water and camping gear brought to them at each bivouac. This means that the candidates have to ration their food or carry much more weight than their opponents. We told you it would be tough?

And the winners of the 2021 edition are ...

This year, Nicole Keller won the women’s race in a total time of 47 hours and 2 minutes, and Iulian Rotariu won the men’s race in a total time of 23 hours and 32 minutes. When you think of all the constraints and elements that had to be overcome, whether it be the altitude, the sun, the cold, the portage, the lack of water or food, or the sometimes rugged terrain, these times are impressive! The Thaki team congratulates all the participants!
